Politics! Zigzags mentality : Jal Shaha, Actress


Jal Shah, a popular name in Nepalese Film Industry. She made debuted her career in Nepalese Movie before ten years. She herself may not calculate how she achieved her dreams or how much still remaining to catch, but definitely enjoying her highs and lows experiences in her career. Jal is also known as the silent personality in Film Industry. Recently she has taken responsibility of the sensible film part, Sensor Board. Here is the interview she has given to Film Nepal Dot Com.

If you are requested to share your experiences in between ten years long journey of Film Industry. How you will share?

This period was a golden age for the ladies leading movies. I enjoyed representing a Nepalese woman who fights against the traditional social thinking of Nepalese Society. I am unsatisfied only in this agenda that all the movies where I acted in leading roles were almost same. Names were different, but the stories and the role of all the movies that I had acted are almost same. I couldn't saw any trying effort from the producers and directors to present a movie with different angles and tests.

It is to be experienced that, actress usually just used for the dance, side role, entertainment and for some glamour explosion. How you are taking this issue.
No, No, this is not the truth. Just watch the movies where I am actress, you will find there that in most of the cinema's my role is more strong that the actor there. Yeh, I agree, in some few movies it may be as your saying. But, this is not happening only in Nepalese movie, can be find in Bollywood and Hollywood also.

You have raised women issues, Can you define the relation between your acting and the Women Movement?
You can watch my movies, where you can find me a representative of a woman who is a victim of a Nepalese society. I have always given the major priority to these types of movies. I believe these types of films aware the Nepalese society and can change the thinking towards the women.

Have you ever analysis the impact of your movie towards the Nepalese Society?
If you analyze the Nepalese cinema, most of them have the happy ending; always there is a victory of truth. When I am requested to sign the movie, I use to tally it with the real story of the society, if it matches I signed. And, defiantly it will give the positive result and message to the society.


These days, the market of Nepalese film industry is going downwards, still there is not a good sign of improvement, how can it will be improved, can you please express your view?
The major weakness of the Nepalese Movie is that the story is almost same, no one is trying to search some good stories really based in the Nepalese society. Producers and Directors are making new movie, but the story is the same as the old one. I am also very much willing to play in different angles of movie. As I have understood, Movie is the combination of art and literature, but here it is going to be a great business. I think this is the major problem for the Nepalese film industry.

Why the Nepalese Movies are still interested subject matter for the lower level of society, why it is unable to touch the middle level and intellectual level?
I really feel very sad in this matter. Higher and Intellectual society members still ignoring Nepalese cinema. We are poor in the technology, economy in comparison of Bollywood and Hollywood, and the market is also very small. In this difficult circumstances, we are promoting Nepalese cinema, and I surprised why some group of Nepalese society are not understanding this truth. They must have to develop the positive attitude towards the Nepalese cinema.

Your expression before the Municipal Election was controversy, what you want to say on it?
I am really irritated by the name of politics these days. Politics! zigzags the mind

Actress are the national asset, isn’t it your responsibility to literate your self in terms of politics?
Every citizens are influenced by politics of their own country, either on work or in other activities. It is up to him or her, how much he or she involved in it. My opinion is only that late peace comes and in context of election, it is the backbone of democracy whenever it is held.

About your future plans?
At Present, as an actress, the days are passing. Let's look if luck favors my desire is to be a producer in near future, but it is not an easy task. It requires a vast knowledge and hard labor, thus I don't want to be foolish thinking that movies would take market by the name.

Are there any task, which you want but won't?
Off course, there are some specific subject matters in my thought. And, when I will be able to produce the movies then the story will be based on that subject. But, I don't want to disclose it now, because it is said once disclosed it won't be full filled.

Suppose you are unable to attend your dream. Don't you think that the Nepalese movie lovers are restricted to watch such movies which are subjected to your thoughts?
I agree that if such situation comes in front of me, then I will be in search of such a person who will produce the movie without destroying the sense of my thought, rather not to him, who produces it for luxury.

Many of Nepalese Actress want to make their career in hollywood and bollywood, what about you?
Every one has there own dream. Hollywood somewhat like the desire to get the moon, but if good opportunity in bollywood will knocks, I won't be back.

Recently you have been appointed in Cinema Sensor Board. How would you give justice?
Definitely, we must have to more sincere in this issue. Rough Glamour and violent scene must have to be considering more seriously. Social norms are always in the consideration
